Cocktails are at 6:00 PM followed by dinner, awards, and a silent auction.

The Newark Day Center, founded in 1803 as the Newark Female Charitable Society, is a multi-faceted, innovative, pace-setting community agency serving children, youth, adults and seniors.

The agency has a rich history.  Many of the social service agencies in existence today, including the United Way of Essex and West Hudson, the American Red Cross of Newark, the Newark Boys and Girls Scouts, the Conference of Jewish Charities, the Salvation Army and Newark Beth Israel, St. Barnabas and Presbyterian Hospitals, had their origins at Newark Day Center.  As the oldest volunteer social service agency in New Jersey and the third oldest in the nation, the Center stands as a beacon of stability to the community.

PARENTS who were enrolled in the childcare center return to enroll their children; ADULTS who were recipients of a campership through the FRESH AIR FUND now send their contributions to assist needy youth; UNEMPLOYED persons can gain new skills through the employment and training program; and SENIORS who "remember when" return to reminisce of by-gone times.  Our supporters depend on us to be here to help.

The center's most widely known initiative is the FRESH AIR FUND.  This program provides summer camperships and leadership training to inner-city youth.  Each year 500 or more youngsters get the opportunity to meet new friends and enjoy the experiences rather than face another dismal summer in the sweltering heat of the city.
